Heraclitus or the Life of a Brahmin is a collaboration between Ilias and Patrick Portella that premiered at the National Center for Musical Creation (GMEM) in Marseille in 2005. The connections between pre-Socratic philosophy and ancient Indian culture have often been discussed. This work links the stages of a Brahmin's life as defined by Hindu tradition – Brahmacharya (study and celibacy), Garahasthya (family life), Vanaprastha (forest exile), and Sannyas (renunciation) – with various fragments of Heraclitus.
